No. ForgeStop uses native smartphone NFC — there is nothing to download or install for the consumer.
How It Works
When a consumer holds their phone near the tag, the phone's built-in NFC reader opens your brand's authentication page in the default browser. The whole experience happens in the browser — no app, no account, no sign-up.
iPhone: Any iPhone from the iPhone 7 onward. iOS handles the tap natively.
Android: Any NFC-enabled Android (most mid-range and above from 2016 on). Android handles the tap via the system NFC reader.
Why No App
ForgeStop is built on the web platform so that authentication works for any customer, anywhere, without the friction of a download. This matters for:
First-time customers who have never heard of your product.
Gift recipients who may not speak the product's primary language.
In-store testers at retail who want to verify before they buy.
What Consumers See
They tap their phone on the product tag.
A verification page opens in their browser.
They tap a single button (typically labeled Verify or Authenticate).
The page confirms the product is authentic and optionally shows your Show More content — lot information, loyalty signup, video content, or whatever you have configured.
What If Their Phone Doesn't Have NFC?
Very old Android phones and iPhone 6 or earlier do not have NFC. These are a small and shrinking share of the market. Consumers on these devices see a fallback message asking them to try with an NFC-enabled phone.
